Obsession Racing Press Release 2007 #3

MENIFEE, CA – This weekend was a real challenge for Obsessing Racing not having our hauler. It was in the shop having a motor overhaul. Thanks to the team at Young Transport we were able to make our show in Albuquerque, NM last weekend. They hauled our trailer to the show and back for us. The show was a Monster Jam event consisting of eight trucks. It was three shows in a row; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday night the Fabtech Obsession took fourth place in the wheelie competition and made it to the semi finals in racing. For freestyle the Fabtech Obsession took forth place.

Saturday night the Fabtech Obsession won the sky wheelie competition. This gave Rick great accomplishment knowing the trucks that he was up against. Unfortunately in the racing category we didn’t place as high as we would have like to. For freestyle we once took forth place.

Sunday afternoon the Fabtech Obsession took second place in the wheelie competition. We brook a sway bar during the competition. Even having a broken sway bar in the first round of racing we won. Rick couldn’t push the truck any further for racing with a broken truck. He managed to do freestyle but it was a first to do this with a broken sway bar. Rick said it was really hard to manage but his still placed fifth in doing so.

After the show Rod Wood with the McGruff Monster Truck was generous enough to give Rick a ride back to Tucson where the hauler was being repaired. Rick then drove back to the shop in our truck with its overhauled motor so he would be ready for his next event.

MENIFEE, CA – The last two weeks have been very busy for Obsession Racing. It started off by coming home from San Diego’s Monster Jam’s event on Saturday January 20th. Having two flat tires and a broken orbital (steering) and a mess of hydraulic fluid covering the inside of the truck, this had to be taken care of before we could even start preparing for the next two weeks.

On Sunday we had two new Superduty bodies delivered for Action 3D Productions for their new 4D amusement park simulator ride. Once the bodies were mounted and fitted to Fabtech Obsession’s Frame, a crew of installers came to wrap the TMAXX XDRIVE vinyl on the new bodies for the 4D movie. They also wrapped two other custom bodies running with the Havoc vinyl. Once this was completed we had enough time to demount those bodies and remount the Fabtech Obsession’s body for the Anaheim, CA Monster Jam event on Saturday night. The Fabtech Obsession made a strong showing all the way to the semi finals wrapping the night up with a solid freestyle. The next morning after racing on Saturday, they had to demount our normal body and put on the TMAXX body for filming that day.

The filming was done in Lake Piru, CA. It was five full days of filming. All of the monster truck driving was performed by Rick Swanson in TMAXX and Steve Hearley in Havoc. In Rick Swanson’s truck was mounted the only 3D effects camera for the viewer to have the full effects of experiencing the actual driving. They raced each other on a J hook course. They each did an awesome freestyle show. They also chased each other for an off road affect that went over a bridge, and a dirt road that went through a river. Rick Swanson in the TMAXX body had a spectacular finish busting through a motor home.

Having used the TMAXX body is unusual for Obsession. We were allowed to put our sponsor’s logos on our side panels and put their banners along side of the track. Using the TMAXX body was only done this way because of the availability of the trucks. No matter what the Fabtech Obsession carries on its back, it will always show off what’s on top. We want to give a special thanks to the Lewis Daniel group, Overdrive Entertainment, 3D Productions and Hearley Motorsports. Everyone was a pleasure to work with.

MENIFEE, CA – The New Year has been extremely busy for Obsession Racing. It started off in Anaheim, CA for a display at Supercross to a sold out crowd. Our display was unique with both Rick Husemans class 4 race truck and the Fabtech Obsession Monster truck painted alike with the same paint scheme. It caught a lot of people’s attention and stood out above the crowd.

The following weekend The Fabtech Obsession truck had its first Monster Jam race at the Anaheim Stadium. It also was a first time race for our son Eric. He was given a wonderful opportunity to race the Fabtech trophy kart that is an exact replica of Dad’s truck. This made Eric ecstatic and he had a wonderful time racing. A big thank you goes out to Ryan Winner and his Dad Dave for giving Eric this great experience.

Rick’s mind was set to prove why he was the 2006 MOD Champion with a blistering qualifying pass of nearly 2 seconds faster than the fastest truck there. The downfall was that he got a 10 second penalty from hitting the turning post. The penalty put him up against Maximum Destruction with the fastest time for the first round of racing. Maximum Destruction continued on and won the finals. In freestyle the Fabtech Obsession was the fourth truck out and set the bar for the rest of the trucks to top.

We continued on to San Diego the next weekend for the next Monster Jam show. The Fabtech Obsession had a field of highly competitive trucks to compete against. The Fabtech Obsession placed third fastest in qualifying time. This put him on a winning streak winning all the way through to the semi finals. In the finals we faced off against Bounty Hunter. Bounty Hunter had lane choice which put us into the right lane which we had not ran in all night. The Fabtech Obsession slid out into the slick corner handing the win to Bounty hunter. Doing so well in freestyle at Anaheim, Monster Jam put the Fabtech Obsession in the second half of the freestyle order. We went out to make our mark launching the truck on the first hit and coming down on our left side. With this kind of impact landing the truck blew both left tires. Rick still continued on and went for the bus stack and cleared it with two bad tires. Landing from this jump with bad tires, it took out the steering hose and completed the run.

This weekend will be in Anaheim again for round three for the Monster Jam series.
